Feeling Awful

Last Thursday in the chaos of the evening I shut Amelia's hand in our sliding glass door. OUCH!! I felt horrible! Right away I called Kaylee to come take a look at it and by the time she got here Amelia was a happy giggling girl just excited to see her grandma, you never would have known she got hurt.

.....Then Monday evening I casually mentioned to Michael that Amelia's hand still looked pretty swollen. After a while we thought we might as well take her to instacare to get it checked out, just to ease our worries. I was shocked when Michael called me a half and hour later and told me that her finger was actually broken. This time I felt REALLY REALLY horrible. How could I have not known? I am her mother, I'm supposed to protect her from bad things not cause them. The doctor told us to make an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon right away to see if they would need to put a pin in it. Long story short, the surgeon said she should be fine with just a splint on it for a couple of weeks...whew. So now she gets to strut her pretty purple and blue bandage for a while....

oh! poor baby! good thing you got it checked out & also that's very good she won't need surgury.
i am sure you feel so bad, but it was totally an accident so try not to beat yourself up about it- i am sure amelia doesn't even remember the incident. she forgave you the moment you kissed it better.

Oh babe I am so sorry. That just makes me sad to read your post. You need to vent and get it out. It will be better. Her splint is so cute. All will be well. Love ya.

What a sweetheart! She was so brave. If it had been me I would have been rolling on the floor begging for sympathy. She does look really cute with the big bandage on her little tiny finger. She will be fine, but her mom may take a few more weeks to recover from the trauma...sigh:(

Awww, poor girl. But don't let it make you feel bad. Accidents happen and you do a great job at protecting her. You're a wonderful mother.

Oh Erin, you are probably more traumatized than she is. Erin, you are a great mom, don't worry. My advice, coming from someone who has a daughter who had two broken legs is just to go with your gut. With Carlee I knew, but everyone just said to ride it out. I went with my gut against what everyone else said and took her and it was broken. I felt terrible that I had waited even that long. There is no way that you could have known.
She is such a cute girl and that picture of her is so cute. I'm calling today!

You are such a fabulous mother Erin! And I agree, the bandage is adorable even though it's not fun to have. Hope it heals quickly!!!
